Welcome to the Homepage of Sayan Chakraborti

My name is Sayan Chakraborti. I am from Kolkata (previously called Calcutta) in India. I became an editor at Open Site just about the time I joined Mensa International (Membership Number 53048). I am also an editor at the ODP. I am an undergraduate student of Physics at the St. Xavier's College under the Calcutta University. I used to be a student at the South Point High School in my hometown. At the moment I am in the first year of college (called the freshman year in some other countries). I am interested in everything from Arts to Science and from Football to Chess. By the way my favorite subject is Physics while I also enjoy Computer Science and Mathematics. I happen to be a Linux user. I currently use Debian GNU/Linux 3.0r0. I am the project admin of Calculating Pi. I also happen to run a site on social and cultural issues called Peaceful Action and a Humanist site at SINARG. I am currently in the process of shifting my homepage from http://projectpi.sourceforge.net/sayan/ to http://www.peacefulaction.org/sayan/. An account of my involvement in opensource or free software projects may be found at http://sourceforge.net/users/sayanchak/. Below is the picture of me with my buddies who run Peaceful Action. I am the second guy from the left. (The idiot with the blue tie.) The picture has been taken by another classmate on the terrace of our school building. The guys in the photograph from left to right are Shamashis, Sayan, Sayamindu and Arko Provo.

I have a new Personal Blog, as well as a new website for collaborative blogging. The purpose of Scoopal.com is to provide a free place for you to blog and read your friends' blogs within an unified interface.

I have been tinkering around with the logistic equation and generation bifurcation diagrams lately. Have a look at 1, 2 and 3.

Did you ever wonder if the person in the puddle is real, and you're just a reflection of him? So you did? Good for you. Now, click on read more to get a look at one of the most confusing short stories I have ever read. It was refered to me by my friend Shamashis.

Two friends and I attended the British Council Lecture by Sir Roger Penrose on "A Fundamental Gap in our Present Laws of Physics: How might this relate to Concious Mentality", on Monday 13th January, at Nandan. Of course, I took my copy of "The Emperor's New Mind" with me, and I was highly delighted when he signed it. It is one of my favourite books on popular science, and will remain a prized posession.

I got my scores for the SAT exams I sat for. In the SAT-I I got 760 and 710 in the Maths and Verbal Sections. IN the SAT-II I got 780 in Chemistry and 800 in both Maths-IIc and Physics. I hope they are good enough to get me into some college or other.

Durga Puja Ended
Posted by: sayan on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 - 12:03 PM GMT

Durga Puja has officially ended today on Dasami. It is a ten day celebration of the victory of Godess Durga over the demon Mahishasur. Though originally a Hindu religious festival, its now more of an all community fun festival lastng five days, especially celebrated from Shasti (the sixth day) to Dasami (the tenth or last day). The fact that this festival has crossed the barriers of religion enables people of all backgrounds and even atheists, like me, to enjoy it. As usual my friends, family and I celebrated Durga Puja, with lots and lots of fun.
